Legends Are Made

Legends are who we aspire to be, who we talk about to inspire others, and who leave an unforgettable impression on everyone within their field.

As Barney Stinson would say, “Legen…wait for it…dary.”

It’s something you strive to become, and why wouldn’t you? You don’t want to half-ass your way through life, do you? If you don’t want to pursue greatness, you shouldn’t even bother.

Everyone has the ability to become a legend. Here’s the difference between the ordinary and the legendary: the desire to overcome.

You don’t don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

No one simply wakes up, goes through life, and becomes a legend. It requires the pursuit of excellence. It also involves playing the victor instead of the victim.

Don’t Be a Victim

Step one to become legendary: don’t let the bad shit in life bring you down. So what if your idea didn’t work out, you ripped your hamstring, or you went bankrupt? You overcome. You pull yourself together, stand up, and dust yourself off. If you continue to sit and wallow, you become the victim.

Legends learn from their mistakes. They don’t let a few missteps get them down. Instead, they choose to never quit.

We know that Hershey chocolate is a legendary brand. Hell, it has its own theme park. You don’t become a chocolate-lover without knowing about Hershey and all of the good products that the brand has to offer. And anyone who has passed through Hershey, Pennsylvania knows that it’s not just a coincidence that the city is named after the chocolatier.

Want to know why Milton Hershey is discussed as being legendary not only in the world of chocolate but also in the world of business? He dropped out of school at 12. He failed in his first two businesses. Yet, he kept going. He could have wallowed in his sadness and gone on to work in a factory. His life would have been ordinary, but he would have had a life.

Greatness Exists In All Of Us

Instead, he was committed. He chose never to quit. And through his perseverance, one of the greatest chocolate companies in the world was born. Milton Hershey earned his greatness and became a legend.

The same can be true of other legends, including Henry Ford, Steve Jobs, Andrew Carnegie, Estee Lauder, PT Barnum, and others.

Greatness exists in all of us. However, you have to choose the path that you follow. You don’t become a legend by accident. You work your ass off for it. And, if you offend a few people along the way, you know that you overcame it all. Legends are made out of sweat, blood, and tears.

Look for Inspiration

Do you think that Milton Hershey would have been successful if he hated chocolate? Do you think Steve Jobs would have been successful if he didn’t love technology?

Legends are made as a result of their success stories. And, you cannot be successful unless you are inspired by something.

You have to find out where your genius lies. Start within your comfort zone. Look for inspiration in the mundane.

In Minnesota, it gets cold. Protecting our equipment, our toys, and our vehicles is important, especially because of the snow. We wanted a better form of storage, which is where we decided that we could become pole barn builders.

Eventually, we stepped outside of our comfort zone to begin building larger and larger pole barns. They became available for use as homes, businesses, storage facilities, and so much more. We even decided to expand into Wisconsin and Texas.

Everyone has a purpose for a pole barn. It’s a way to create a building that is not only stable but also affordable. Ranches in Texas can use them, breweries in Wisconsin can use them, and hunters in Minnesota can use them. They’re extremely versatile, especially because of our custom approach with each pole barn that is built.

Become the Best

Alright, so at this point, you’ve decided that you’re not going to play the role of the victim. You’ve also sought out inspiration in your everyday life. Now, you have to become the best. That’s the easy part, right?

Excellence is not for the chosen, you simply have to choose to excel. Study your competition. Train hard. Become relentless.

No Olympic athlete wins a gold medal by accident. No entrepreneur becomes a billionaire without putting in the work.

The greatest lesson I’ve learned in my life, is that I’ve still got a lot to learn.

Being the best is something you work for each and every day. You have to want it deep within your soul, and you do it by being an individual. This isn’t high school algebra. You can’t just copy the person in front of you and hope for amazing results.
