Step ladders can be just as important as real ladders. It gives us a step up, even if it’s not quite the full step we were looking for. We take what we can get. If it helps us to fight impossible odds, we’re headed in the right direction.

Let’s talk about being blue-collar for a moment. That’s what most of us are in Sherman Country, and there’s nothing wrong with that. We have the desire to survive. We’re not charity cases. We’re just hard-working individuals with big dreams.

Despite all these modern construction tools… I think the shovel is the most groundbreaking.

We know the value of a dollar. More importantly, we understand the value of quality.

Without the blue-collar men and women of the country, we wouldn’t be where we are today. We’re great, and we’re getting greater by the day.

It’s All About Quality, Not Price

Benjamin Franklin once said, “The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.”

You’ve likely experienced this bitterness once or twice before. It’s truly an awful aftertaste, too.

You buy something because it’s on sale. Or it’s the lowest price out of all of the bids you got. And then, suddenly, the product falls apart. Why? Because it was cheap. That low price you got suddenly doesn’t seem too great.

Last night, I watched a documentary about how they fix steel girders together. …. Riveting!

A blue-collar man knows about quality. They’re the ones that are doing the building. They’ll be able to examine any low-cost item and tell you why it’s so cheap. They’ll tell you about the materials, the craftsmanship, and even tell you approximately how long it will last.

These are the people you need to keep around you.

Think about all of the quality things in life that are worth a bit more.

The Magic Kingdom is a great example.

Walt Disney said that “You can dream, create, design, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it requires people to make the dream a reality.”

It’s about the creativity, the quality, AND the blue-collar people that help to bring the dream to life. You wouldn’t want to be riding Space Mountain if it was put together with discount parts and untrained labor, would you?

I have this great construction joke, but I’m still working on it. I have to hammer out a few kinks and nail the delivery. I just don’t want to screw it up…

Nailed It!

Okay, so we all have our own versions of “Nailed it!” There’s even a show dedicated to how people think that they nailed something only for it to be laughed at by the masses.

If I’m going to recreate something, I truly want to nail it. Otherwise, it’s going to fall apart.

Sometimes, I don’t feel as though everyone appreciates my sense of humor. I told my carpenter I didn’t want carpeted steps. He gave me a blank stair.

It’s a good thing my bestie appreciates it. In fact, he may have even one-upped me on our latest back-and-forth.
Me: “I had to quit my construction job because I wasn’t strong enough for the work.”
Friend: “Did you give them your too-weak notice?”

Alright, back to nailing a project. It takes hard work, dedication, and a commitment to quality.

If you’re in or around Effingham, KS, you’ve already gotten a taste of what Sherman Country is all about. Quality that truly nails what you’re looking for.

Step Ladders

Enough with the Jokes Already…

We’ve got endless jokes, but we never joke about quality construction. We can talk about step ladders and real ladders. We can be quite pun-ny when we put our minds to it.

But we have to stop with the jokes long enough to focus on the real reason we’re sharing this little blog post with you.

DIY is often a joke because it never turns out the way that you want. Sure, you have great ideas. But somewhere between the brainstorming and the execution, things go a little haywire.

Think about what KS is known for. Perhaps you heard about a little girl named Dorothy and her dog Toto. A tornado whisked them away.

Tornados happen. And you don’t want to be whisked away when one occurs. And, realistically, you want your structures to stay right where they are, too.

That’s not always going to happen when you take the DIY route because you focused on a low price rather than quality.

There’s nothing to panic about. You’re not going to have to don red sparkly shoes and click your heels to avoid the same mess that Dorothy got herself into.
