Everyone wishes that they could change the past in one way or another. As Isak Dinesen once said, “You can’t change the past, but you can ruin the present by worrying about the future.”

The reality is that changing the past could have dangerous repercussions if we actually COULD make changes. Seriously, if we learned anything from Doc and Marty McFly, it should be that we shouldn’t be mucking with the past.

The biggest lie I tell myself is that “I don’t need to write that down, I’ll remember.”

It’s why whiteboards are so remarkable. You’ve seen those boards. They’re in classrooms, offices, and even refrigerators for to-do lists and grocery must-gets. You write on them with a marker. Then, if you make a mistake or want to start over entirely, one pass with an eraser gives you a blank canvas once again.

What if you could do that with your life?

It won’t be quite as easy. They don’t make magic erasers for your life like they do whiteboards. However, you can always choose to start over in one way or another.

Can we start the weekend over? I wasn’t ready.

Oh, if only it were that easy. But there’s always next weekend. And the weekend after that. Learn from your mistakes so that it will go better next time.

Get Your Stupid Stuff Out of the Way

The best part about being over 40 is that we did most of our stupid stuff before the internet. There was no Facebook, no Instagram, nor YouTube. There may be a Polaroid floating around of you being an idiot, but it’s not on YouTube where one million people can watch you make a fool out of yourself.

We have a whiteboard when it comes to our behaviors.

Think you were stupid? You probably were. We all were. Since there’s no evidence of your stupidity, you have a clean slate. It’s as if you’ve got a clean whiteboard in front of you. So, tell the story you want people to read instead of the story of what actually happened.

If there’s no evidence, it didn’t happen. Right?

Have your fun and be stupid. Just leave your phone at home. And make sure all your friends do the same. It’s a lot easier to get a clean slate when there’s no evidence lingering on someone’s mobile device. Those could turn into very ugly blackmails down the road if you’re not careful.

Can we start the weekend over again? I wasn’t ready.

Not everything you’re going to do is stupid, either. Often, you can look at it as a way to learn. You make mistakes and you learn. Every time you learn, you head back to the drawing board.

Theodore Roosevelt was famous for saying, “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”

Guess what? When you have more, you can do more. And as you grow, you’ll be able to do more and have more. It’s funny how that works.

You’re Never Too Old to Set New Goals and Dream New Dreams

It turns out CS Lewis was right when he said we’re never too old for goals and dreams.

When you’re in Kansas looking up at the stars or driving around town, you may decide that it’s time to do something different with your life. You may get a great idea for a business or suddenly want a new home.

Who says you have to deal with what you have? Whiteboards, baby. Just give it a quick erase so that you can start from scratch.

Want a new home? Try looking into barndominiums.

Want a new business facility? Try looking into pole barns.

Ready to start making better decisions? Take it to the drawing board.

Don’t let age stand in your way. And don’t make any other excuses, either. Decide what you want out of life and pursue it. Bite off the cap of an expo marker and make a few notes on that whiteboard of yours. When you see a plan written out in front of you, it’s a lot easier to take action.

Find an obstacle? Just wipe your plan away with your finger and write up a new plan.

Easy peasy, right?

Sherman Country Should Be Written on Your Whiteboard

You’ve got a plan written out to move forward with your new and exciting future. You have wiped away the wrongs, learned from your mistakes, and are ready for the next step.

Wait. You do have Sherman Pole Buildings on your whiteboard, right?

It’s hard to move forward if you don’t have the right product. And at Sherman, we have over 40 years of quality craftsmanship. We’ve built in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and now we’re in Kansas, too.

Considering that barndominiums are becoming more popular due to their cost-effectiveness, it can be just the way for you to give yourself a new slate. You can have DIY projects galore or let us take care of all of the decorative details. You can save money and have a bigger home.

Sometimes, it’s just about changing the way that you look at things.

I came, I saw, I forgot what I was doing. I retraced my steps, got lost on the way back, now I have no idea where I am or what’s going on.

Don’t think you can afford a new home? Maybe you need to stop looking at traditional builders. A steel pole barn can provide you with a sturdy home that can stand up to all of the elements. And with our custom builds, you get the layout that you’ve always wanted.

We happen to be experts in changing the way that we look at things.

I hope when I inevitably choke to death on gummy bears, people just say I was killed by bears and leave it at that. No one needs to know that my sweet tooth is finally what brought me down. Inhaling gummy bears at warp speed is normal. Normal, I tell you.

Anyways, like we were saying. Whiteboards are remarkable because you can erase your mistakes. And, you can use them to plan your future.

When any kind of building structure is a part of your future, allow us at Sherman to help. We’ll make sure that there’s no need to do any further erasing because our pole barns are mistake-free.

If I had to do it all over again. I would do it all over again.
