There’s Something Magical And Powerful About Taking A Risk

Think about some of the greatest victories that have occurred. It can be from a pitch at work, a tackle in football, or even from a date you were able to score. There was a certain amount of risk involved for you to get that victory.

Risk can be small or large. You have to open your mouth. Push yourself harder. You have to step outside of your comfort zone. When you do these things, you are risking all sorts of things. Sometimes it will work out for the best and sometimes it won’t. But if you don’t take the risk, you’ll never know. You’ll lose your chance. If you stand around waiting for too long, you can watch the window of opportunity slam shut.

There’s something magical and powerful about taking a risk sometimes. You know that it can provide you with all that you’ve ever wanted, but you have to take that step.

Live a Risky Life

There’s risky and there’s stupid. We’re not asking you to make unnecessary risks just to have a taste of the sweet life. You don’t have to thrust yourself into dangerous situations like volcano boarding, ice climbing, or running with bulls. If you’re not interested in extreme sports, that’s okay. There are plenty of other ways for you to take the risk.

Simply saying “yes” here and there can ensure you take a few more risks.

If someone from the office invites you camping, go ahead and go. You don’t want to be the only one left out of the adventures on Monday morning, do you?

In the end we only regret the chances we didn’t take

If someone from the neighborhood invites you over to a cookout, accept it. You may have the chance to meet a new friend and eat something delicious.

If you keep saying “no” all the time, people will stop asking you to participate. What, then? How many chances to live a risky life will you miss out on?

Do you take the risk? Or, do you lose the chance to have some fun on your day off?

Dangerous Things Carefully

Bet on Love

Humans aren’t meant to be alone. We need love in our lives. You don’t accidentally fall into being a couple. It takes a few risks, even before the biggest risk of getting down on one knee and saying “I do” at the end of an altar.

When you see someone who interests you, let them know that you’re available. Let them take a chance on you. If you don’t take a chance, you could miss out on an amazing love story.

Proposal

The only way to form a connection with someone is to open up. You have to be vulnerable. That, alone, can be risky. What if they don’t like what they see? What if they don’t have the same feelings? There’s only one way to know, and that involves you putting yourself out there. Otherwise, they move on. They take that risk with someone else. And that leaves you alone and wondering “what if” you had done something different.

There are a few other risks that you can take to make sure that you capture love without coming across as too needy or too demanding.

  • Disagree
  • Do your own thing
  • Have the difficult conversations
  • Limit “check-ins” during the day

Relationships are all about achieving balance, but they require you to take a leap of faith from time to time. If you disagree, stop texting in the middle of the day, or talk about something difficult in the relationship, it could be a deal-breaker. Or, it could be what’s needed to take that relationship to the next level. So, do you take the risk? Or, do you lose the chance to have a great love story?

Have the Best Stories

When you’re sitting around a brewery in Wisconsin telling stories of how you spent your weekend, you want the best stories. Risk is the price you pay for opportunity.

If you take the risk, you’ll have some stories to share. They may not always be of success. However, you can make friends as you tell people about your adventures. Your desire for action will ensure you take risks. Some will pay off and some will leave everyone laughing. But at least you’ll always have a story to contribute.

Risk happens when you live. You thought you could head out on the coldest day of winter to hunt for deer in Minnesota. You underestimated the rapids on the river in Texas. When the risk doesn’t pay off, you don’t get the glory. Instead, you get nothing to show for your efforts. Or, maybe you get an injury to show off.

The biggest risk a person can take is to do nothing

Your ability to dust yourself off and climb back on the horse of life is what will allow you to have more fun. One bad risk isn’t worth not being risky anymore.

Find a place where you can be yourself. Create the stories time and again as you head into adventure, gather with friends, and talk about your deepest darkest feelings. That place could be a pole barn out in the middle of nowhere, a boat in the middle of the ocean, or even an ATV on the muddiest trail around.
